In The Midst

In the Midst discusses the myths and facts about marriage. Author David Goddard covers issues concerning money, submission, sex and divorce. I must admit, some of his points heightened my curiosity and challenged what I once believed. In particular, the section on divorce was quite captivating. He carefully discusses seven different religions take on divorce. Amazing, were the differences and similarities coupled with his interpretation based on biblical references on divorce. It’s pretty intense so you must pay attention.
On a lighter note, pages 27-40 he talks about faith, virtue, self-control, perseverance, Godliness, brotherly kindness, love and marriage, most of which we are already familiar with. His explanation of knowledge was beautifully said. “Knowledge is intrinsic to growth and comes with the inherent responsibility that obligates you to share what you are learning for the edification, empowerment, and affirmation of others.” Knowledge is key.
What I appreciated most was Goddard’s honest-in-your-face epithets regarding marriage. His wording is so intricate and specific that it creates aha moments repeatedly throughout the book. Whether you’ve been married for five years or fifty years, In The Midst, undoubtedly addresses past, current, and future aspects of marriage. Therefore, I highly recommend this book if you are married and/or considering getting married. It’s a riveting exploration of this lifetime commitment.
