Charles Darwin has been called “The Father of Evolution” and taught in schools for his theories on the evolution of species.  Today we are experiencing another evolution, a changing in our minds, on the standards of

beauty in hair care.  Viola Davis, Oscar nominee for Best Actress, made headlines when she graced the red carpet wearing an emerald Vera Wang gown and green earrings, and natural hair.

Women and men are embracing this shift to our own culture and letting go standards of beauty dictated by others who say that to be beautiful, you must process your hair.  One of the major leaders on the forefront for Natural Hair care is the founder of the Evolution Natural Hair Care Tour, Malaika-Tamu Cooper.  Cooper states, It has always been my ministry to educate people about their natural hair, its beauty, significance, and bring them back to their natural states; mind, body and soul”.

Nine years ago, Malaika-Tamu Cooper envisioned a hair show for Natural Hair, sponsored by her salon Dreadz n Headz in Baltimore, MD that would focus on natural hair care, holistic healing, and wearable art.  Each year, Cooper watched the hair show grow and change before her eyes into an expo featuring numerous vendors, entertainers and workshops.  The Baltimore Natural Hair Care Expo attracted 4,000 visitors from across the country and aboard in 2008.  Cooper decided it was time to stretch out from Baltimore and in 2010, the Exodus Natural Hair Care tour was born.  The 2010 tour visited cities such as Cleveland, Ohio and was so successful that the Exodus II tour returned and visited over a dozen cities.  The tour continues to bring out thousands of attendees who crave for products and education on maintaining and caring for their hair.

The tour will be stopping this weekend in Baltimore, MD at the BWI Doubletree Hilton located at 890 Elkridge Landing Road, Linthicum, MD 21090.  Featured guest this year are Navasha Daya formerly of Fertile Ground, Precise Science,Ruff mic, Guiness Book of World Records holders for – “Longest locs in the World” -Asha Mandela and “Biggest Afro in the World”- Aevin Dugas.  There will be free classes as well as paid workshops available on each day.
